Worksheet 2: Characters in the Film

Jessminder (Jess) wants to be a professional football player. Unfortunately, her parents have more traditional ideas about her future but his problem was only a challenge for her because she was a strong and a brave person and she continued playing football. Her friend, Jules was a beautiful person because she helped her in this problem.

Juliette (Jules) also wants to be a professional footballer. She plays for a women's football team, the Hounslow Harries. Her mother didn't like the football and she didn't wanted play football but Jules was continue playing football with any problem. And she helps a lot to her friend, Jess and Jess' problem.

Jess' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bhamra, immigrated to Britian before their children were born. They want their daughters to be proper Indian girls. They don't like Jess playing football.

Jules' father Alan supports his daughter's football career. He practices with her and goes to watch her matches. Her mother, Paula, doesn't like it. She wants her daughter to be more feminine. 

Pinky is Jess' older sister. She is busy planning her wedding to her boyfriend, Teetu

Joe is the coach of the Hounslow Harriers. He used to play football, but a knee injury forced him to stop playing. He was a brave person because he knew the Jess' football talent and he went to Jess' house and he talked to her parents. Finally, her father helped Jess and she could go to the final match.

Tony is Jess' best friend. He plays football with her in the park. Tony has a secret. 

David Beckham is an international football star.

PICTURE C:
This picture shows a female team wining a trophy at a football field.
They're about fourteen or fifteen years old and there are people from different countires. They're wearing the team tracksuit. In the foreground there are old the girls sith he trophy and in the background thre is the football field.
I think the team are miling because they play a football competition and at the final they win. Maybe they are on the losing football field after they win the final match. I like this picture because old the people are happy!

This picture shows a female team dressing a one of them from another country in the costume.
They're about fourteen or fifteen years old and there are people from different countries. They're wearing the team tracksuit except one she is wearing a sari. In the foreground there are old the girls and in the background there's the team costume.
I think the team is helping to her friend to dressing up with her sari. Maybe they are smilin gbecause they win a competition an dshe is dressing fast because she needs to go another place. I like this picture because old the girls are helping her friend.

Worksheet 3: While You Watch

3.1. THE HOUNSLOW HARRIERS
Exercise A: Put these events in the correct order.
4. Pinky has her engagement party.
2. Jules sees Jess playing football in the park, and asks her to join the Hounslow Harriers.
6. Jess' mother sees her wearing shorts and playing football with Tony's friends, and tells her she's not allowed to play football.
5. Jess lies to her parents that she has a part-time job, so she can go out and play football.
1. Jess and Jules go shopping for football shoes.
3. Pinky's boyfriend's relatives see Jess and Jules laughing and hugging, and think she is kissing a man.

Exercise B: Who said what? Match the statement with the person who said it.
1. 'It was married at your age.' Jess' mother
2. 'If she's more interested in playing football than chasing boys, well quite frankly I'm over the moon about that.' Jules' father
3. Your mother's right. It's not nice. You must start behaving like a proper woman.' Jess' father

Exercise C: Think about the expectations that Jess' and Jules' families have of them. Make lists of the things that their families and society expect girls to do. Make one list for both girls, and another list for Jess.

Both Jess and Jules:
- They are expected to more feminine things.
- They are expected not to have bigger muscles.
- They are expected not to play sports.
- They are expected to get married.
- They are expected to enjoy shopping.
- They are expected to look nice.
- They are expected to find a boyfriend. 

Jess:
- They are expected to get married to an Indian man.
- They are expected to cook well.
- They are expected to clean the house.
2.2. WILL PINKY GET MARRIED?
Exercise A: This section starts with Pinky's wedding being cancelled, because her future in-laws think that Jess was kissing a white man at the bus-stop. Her parents then forbid her from playing football. Put the following events in order.
6. The wedding is back on again.
7. Tony tells Jess that he is gay.
3. Joe and Jess almost kiss. Jules sees this and becomes jealous.
1. Jess gets into a fight with another football player.
4. The Hounslow Harriers go to Germany.
8. Joe goes to the Bhamra's house to try to persuade them to allow Jess to play football.
5. The Bhamras find out Jess went to Germany, and try to make her quit the team.
2. Jess' father sees Joe and Jess hugging.

Exercise B: Rewrite these paragraphs so they are true. There are three mistakes in each paragraph.
1. Pinky blames Jess because her wedding is cancelled. She tells her parents that Jess hasn't stopped playing football. They are very angry and tell her she can't continue to play.
2. Jules does like Joe. In Germany, Joe and Jes kissed. Jules sees this and is upset and jealouos. Jess visit Jules' house and they have an argument.
3. Pinky isn't very happy that her wedding is cancelled. She persuades Teetu, her boyfriend, to talk to his friends. Teetu's parents and the Bhamras arrange for the wedding to continue. Unfortunately, the wedding date is the same day as Jess' final match.

Exercise C: Joe tries to encourage Jess not to give up. When Jess says that her parents want to protect her by not letting her play football, Joe asks her "Whose life are you living?" What does he mean?
That she is doing what society and her parents wants to her do.

2.3. THE FINAL MATCH
Exercise A: Answer the questions
1. Why does Jess' mother pray to the picture of Babaji? Because he is her God.
2. How does Jess feel at the start of her sister's wedding? She was really sad
3. Why does Joe go to Jess' house during the wedding? Because she want Jess to the final match.
4. Why does Mr. Bhamra allow Jess to go to the football match? Because he want to watch Jess' football talent. 
5. What does the American offer Jules and Jess? They offer an schooler sheep.
6. What job does Joe take in the end? He continued train the feminine team.

Exercise B: What happens to these people at the end of the movie?
1. Jess and Jules. They went to Santa Clara's collage.
2. Jules' mother. She accepted that her daughter was a good football player.
3. Jess and Joe. They kissed at the airport.
4. Pinky and her mother-in-law. They fell friends.
5. Joe and Mr. Bhamra. They played cricket together.

Exercise C: At the end of the wedding celebration, Jess is sitting in the car with her sister when her sister says "Don't you want all of this?" (a wedding, a husband...). What does Jess men when she says "I want more than this?"
Because she wanted to play football in America with Jules and then she want old of this things.

The plot

· THE PLOT:
Kate and Charlie were a lovely couple. They wanted to get married and buy a house. Charlie traveled to Paris for work but when he was staying in Paris he met Juliette. Charlie fell in love with Juliette and then called Kate and explained it, so Kate decided to go to Paris and met Charlie. On the plane Kate met Luc, a crazy French man and they talked all the flight. When they landed, Luc put the necklace in Kate's bag. Kate went to Georgia hotel and asked to Charlie but the assistant didn’t tell anything. Kate waited to see Charlie but when she saw Charlie, she fainted. When she was fainted, the man took Kate's bag and went to his flat. When Kate got up Luc was with her. Luc and Kate went to Bob's flat and Kate found her bag. After that ,Kate and Luc separated but Luc arrived to the conclusion that the necklace was in Kate's bag. Kate went to a train station to take a train to Nice, and Luc went too. In the train Luc fell in love with Kate. Kate ate a lot of cheese and then she wanted to get off to the train. In Luc's city, they met his brother and took away his wallet. Luc and Kate went to Luc's house and had lunch. Then they took a different train to Nice. In Nice, they went to the same hotel of Charlie and Juliette. In the next night, Charlie met Kate to dinner and then they went to Charlie’s room. Luc met to Juliette and then they went to Luc’s room. The next day, Kate went to Cartier and she gave  the necklace back to the police. Kate went to the airport but she didn’t fly because she fell in love with Luc and she went to Luc’s city and they went to the vineyard that he wanted to buy.

·Why the name of the film is French kiss?
I think that old story is in France. And the name is French kiss because it’s a romantic film and the characters kiss a lot.

Kate:
Kate (Meg Ryan) has a fastidious and wholesome history teacher living in Canada with her boyfriend, Charlie (Timothy Hutton). She has a short blonde hair, pale skin and blue eyes. She's not very tall and she's a small woman. She was really angry and upset because his finance went to Paris, and there met Juliette (Jean Reno) and left her. But she had a great idea for met Charlie (Timothy Hutton) she was an intelligent woman.
Luc:
Luc (Kevin Klein) has a strange and mysterious man who had a necklace and the police wanted to take. He's a crazy French man and curious. He’s so tall and big. He has dark hair, brown moustache, dark eyes and brown-pale skin. I think he has got 35-40 years old.

Charlie:
Charlie (Timothy Hutton) is a doctor and he lived with his girlfriend, Kate (Meg Ryan) in Canada. But then in Paris met a Juliette (Jean Reno) and fell in love to her. He has black hair, dark eyes and pale-brown skin. I think he has got 35-40 years old. He was cruel because left Kate for Juliette (Jean Reno).

Juliette:
Juliette (Jean Reno) has a friendly and rich girl and she live in French. She met Charlie (Timothy Hutton) and she fell in love to him and they wanted to married. She' has long brown hair, brown eyes and brown-pain skin. She has normal and thin. I think she has got 30-35 years old.

Compare the characters Kate-Juliette and Charlie-Luc.
Kate / Juliette:
Kate has got blond short hair and beautiful blue eyes, and Juliette has got long brown hair and dark eyes. Juliette is taller than Kate. Also she wears fashion clothes and Kate wears ordinary clothes.
Kate is more an ordinary and simple person, but really nice and friendly. She's very kind and helps a lot the other people. Juliette looks like a friendly person but she is not so kind. She is more posh.

Charlie/ Luc:
Luc is taller than Charlie. Luc is friendlier; Charlie is more selfish and only thinks about him. Luc is a little bit strange at the beginning of the film and Charlie is more normal, he wears modern and fashion clothes and Luc wears ugly and dirty clothes. 


Kate:
I lived in Canada. I was very afraid to travel by plane to Paris with my financé. I finally stayed at hoime, and Charlie went to Paris. One day he phoned me and told me he had met another women in Paris. She was called Juliette. He fell in love with her and finally he left me for her. I was really upset and very sad, so I took the first plane to Paris, because I had to meet him. But i'm afraid travel by plane so it was a big moment. In the plane I met a really strange crazy French man called Luc. But in the end he helped me to found Charlie. Finally I fell in love with him and I was very angry with Charlie. At the end of the film Luc was my boyfriend.

CHARLIE' S SISTER: So i talked to the broker and i told her we are ready to put in an offer.
KATE: As soon as I talk to Charlie.
CHARLIE' S SISTER: You guys are crazy. I'm never gonna buy a house or anything else worth anything.
KATE: Why not?
CHARLIE' S SISTER: You think you own something like that and I wins up owning you. It becomes your entire live, then someone forgets to put out their cigarette and it all burns to the ground.
(Sounds the telephone)
KATE: Honey, hello.
CHARLIE: Kate, Kate!
KATE: Yeah it's me, Charlie. Are you all right? Is something wrong?
CHARLIE: No. Yeah. Something's happened.
KATE: What? What's wrong?
CHARLIE: Kate. I'm just...I'm just so happy. You know, I'm just so happy and so...fucked up. I fucked up, definitely. But it's destiny, Kate. That's what it is.
KATE: What are you saying? What's destiny?
CHARLIE: Destiny? Yeah. OK. Well, I met this woman. This apparition, this goddesse.
KATE: Goddesse?
CHARLIE: It's French for goddess. And so is she, Kate. She's French. I've never ever felt this way before. Like I could do anything. I could rule the world, clime the highest mountain.
KATE: What? What are you saying? Charlie...Are you...
CHARLIE: Yeah. I'm not coming back. I'm in love, Kate. Love, like in a sonnet. Or in a movie. Or like a....like love. I'm sorry Kate, I'm so sorry.
